Welcome to the ONS Group Website
PCS represent members working at ONS sites in Newport, Titchfield and London. April 2008 saw the birth of the UK Statistics Authority as a fully Independent body accountable to Parliament.
It ceased to be a government department reporting to ministers.
Their job is “promoting and safeguarding the quality of official statistics in the UK”.
We have a PCS union branch at each of the ONS locations and a group executive committee consisting of representatives from each branch. The annual group conference is due to take place on 19 and 20 May in Brighton to debate a range of motions submitted by branches.
A report will be posted on this website by the end of May.
Discussions with our colleagues in Prospect and FDA are currently taking place to agree a joint pay claim for 2008 ahead of formal negotiations with ONS management.
A copy of the pay claim and regular updates will be posted on this website.
Priorities for PCS include improving pay progression and tackling low pay.
Due to the ONS relocation plans and closure of the family records centre members in London are still under threat of compulsory redundancy.
We will continue to work with management to find suitable redeplyment opportunities.
Any redundancies in respect of members who wish to continue their career in the civil service could result in industrial action.
As a result of ONS independence the GRO part of ONS is no more.
We therefore say goodbye to colleagues from the ex ONS PCS branch at Southport and thank union representatives, including former group secretary Norman Bishop, for their hard work and commitment over many years.
